Walking along the fishponds is like making observations at the boundary between the city and nature. By wandering between the two, we can discover the unique soundscape formed by different ecological activities and the villagers' daily life. Through the sound walk and impromptu performance, the work tries to let participants declutter their mind, listen to and admire the landscapes of the fishponds in Tai Sang Wai, and feel the vitality of the place through the activities and food they come across.
Fiona LEE
Born in Hong Kong, Fiona LEE’s works of art are derived from the intersection between installation and performance. Listening creates an important connection between Fiona and the world; this is when she feels the movement of every single moment. She believes her art creations represent the progress she is making in exploring and accepting her own and others’ possibilities. Her recent research on Naturopathic Therapy and its healing art. The research process inspires her to create by learning to listen to and be aware of our own body and mind to heal disease.
Artist's Thought
I walked along the fishponds when visiting Tai Sang Wai during the pandemic. It was like making observations at the boundary between the city and nature. I met Uncle Kan on my first visit. He is a daring old villager who insists on practising eco-friendly fish and shrimp farming to serve healthy food to Hong Kong people. Of course, the food is not only for humans but also for migrant birds and his dog. As I went back-and-forth between Tai Sang Wai and the urban area, I felt as though people living around fishponds are fundamentally different from those in the metropolis. The contrast of these two ideologies in the same city stimulate me to reflect on the ecosystem's nature and the true ecological conservation. Perhaps we should preserve the micro-ecosystem in ourselves before preserving our environment.

Floating in a Daze
The water of the fishpond as the source of life . It is not difficult to experience the vitality of nature between the water surface and the bottom of it. The ecological cycle of survival and death also comes close at the same time. The fishpond as the stage for the improvisation performance with sound and environmental dance.
We sincerely invite you to participate in this "Sound Walk" between the countryside and the city to listen and experience the unique soundscape of Tai Sang Wai.
The participants will join to make their own “bird call” . We will try to practice the use of it and mimic as a bird to sing.
